Consider the following:

  • Is the door wide enough to get into the bathroom?
  • Is there space to place hoisters?

Toilet (consider the following):

  • Is it easily accessible?
  • Is it of the right height for the person to slide on from the wheelchair?
  • Is there space for a handrail?
  • Is the toilet paper holder easy to reach?
  • Is the toilet flusher easy to reach?

Bathroom Alterations

Wash Basin (consider the following):

  • Can the wheelchair fit under the basin?
  • Is the basin the right height?
  • Is the basin deep enough?
  • Is the tap easy to reach?
  • Is the tap easy to switch on and off?
  • Is there space for soap?

Bathroom Alterations

Shower (consider the following):

  • Is there space for handrails?
  • Is there space for a shower seat?
  • Do you want shower doors or a shower curtain?
  • Is the shower head the right size and pressure?
  • Is the tap easy to switch on and off?
  • Is there a safe space to place the soap dispenser?
  • Is there enough space for the wheelchair to fit by the shower seat?
  • Is there enough space for movement to take place in the shower especially if assistance is needed?
  • Suggestion: place a hand shower in the bath and shower.
