Challah Making Demonstration
by chazak · June 2, 2011
A Challah Making Demonstration was held on Thursday, 2 June 2011, at Waverley Shul Hall to raise funds for Chazak.
A strong group of women gathered together to learn the importance of baking challot and how prayer can can be integrated in making the challah dough in order to make it a spiritually upifting experience.
The evening was introduced with Rebbetzin Treger giving an inspiring speech of how baking challah is one of the three biggest mitzvot a women can perform. Before the challah making began Mark Samowitz sung beautiful songs about the strength of prayer. Robyn Smookler then guided all the women through the process of making the challah dough, explaining each ingredient and how it relates to aspects in our life. Water representing Torah knowledge. Yeast representing humbleness. Sugar symbolizing sweetness, joy and simcha. Eggs symbolizing life, fertility and safe pregnancies, etc.
Every person felt the power of prayer as each poured their ingredients into their bowls thinking, praying and adding their personal brachot that related to each ingredient.
The evening ended with everyone feeling a sense of togetherness and spiritual upliftment. All the women were very proud of the dough they made and could not wait to plait it and bake it in the oven when they got home.
Thank you to all the ladies that came and made this evening so special. Thank you to all who helped organize the evening and made it into the success it was. May we all be inspired to continue to make challah and bring brocha to the world.
