A person who experiences a physical disability has limitations in performing certain activities or functions in a day such as; walking, running, sitting, standing, picking up or holding things etc.
Making one’s house friendly for people with a physical disability:
Before adapting one’s house consider the following.
- What physical disability is the person experiencing?
For example the person cannot use their legs, or arms or whole body. - What equipment does the person use?
For example a wheel chair or walking stick. - What apparatus does the person need?
For example hand rails, a hoisting machine to help the person onto the bed. - What needs to be done in order to make the house comfortable, accessible and convenient for the person to live a happy independent life without experiencing frustration?
- Make a list of all the areas that needs to be adapted.
