Wheelchair donation to Churches
The Chazak foundation presented 10 wheelchairs to selected churches on Thursday, the 7 April 2011.
The evening was hosted by Rev Rudi Swanepoel at the Andrew Murray Dutch Reform Church Hall. Rev Rudi Swanepoel welcomed all the guest and spoke briefly about disabilities. He emphasized that everyone of us has a disability but only the visual disabilities are noticed.
He then intriduced Pieter du Preez, a quadriplegic, who spoke about how people with a disablity have to adapt the way they do things to accomodate their new bodies and how people who are able can help a disabled person. He pointed out why disabled people need certain accommodations like parking bays close to the entrance with extra space and disabled toilets. He showed that able people who take up disabled parking bays or occupy disabled toilets do a great dis-serivce to those who are disabled and need the space. His points were very thought provoking and apt.
The evening ended with Michelle Vinokur, founder of the chazak foundation, telling her story and how Chazak was started. Her story inspired all who attended. It was a great evening and all left feeling good and with many thoughts of how they would try and help the disabled. The churches were very grateful for their wheelchairs
